HOW DO I BEAT THE WINTER BLUES?
Winter brings cosy nights in front of the fire, mulled wine, snow (possibly?) and of course Christmas! However, as the temperatures go down and our heating gets turned up, our skin gets drier, chapped and begins to look dull.
To avoid the Winter Skin Blues, follow Pevonia’s simple tips for glowing, hydrated skin all through the cold season:
Keep Exfoliating
This probably wasn’t the first tip you were expecting, but this is one of the most important. In order to keep your skin hydrated and supple, it needs to be moisturised, and moisturising dead skin cells will not help to improve the look. Make sure you remove dead skin build-up by using an exfoliant on the face as well as the body which will reveal the fresh new skin beneath. Once completed, your moisturiser can work to nourish that beautiful new skin.
You can use either mechanical (physical) exfoliation or chemical. Mechanical or physical exfoliation involves using a hard substance to manually remove dead skin cells, whereas chemical exfoliation uses natural acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells.
For the face, try the Enzymo-Sphérides Peeling Cream which uses pineapple and papaya enzymes to breakdown and remove impurities, sebum, toxins, blackheads and dead skin cells. Skin is rendered silky-smooth. Marvellous!
For the body, our Silky Skin Body Scrub is bursting with Jojoba Beads, Rosemary, Chamomile, and Lemon Essential Oil which precisely combine to gently polish away roughness and remove impurities while improving circulation leaving your skin silky-soft.
Moisturise… Inside and Out
Beauty starts from within, so reach for the glass of water and get drinking the recommended two litres a day. Your skin will look brighter, plus you will feel better for it.
Use a moisturiser on your face and neck, morning and night, and ensure it contains natural products which won’t irritate your already dry skin. Avoid ingredients such as lanolin, alcohol and parabens. When applying, be gentle to your skin. Pat the product in with your fingertips, taking particular care around the delicate eye area. Take a look at our recommended homecare for Dry Skin, as well as Sensitivity.
Don’t forget a good lip product, as your lips are the first to suffer with the cold weather. Try the Rapid-Restore Lip Balm which is formulated with an exceptional emollient blend of Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Shea Butter, and Vegetable Olus Oil from olives. The unique exfoliating texture works to quickly polish away toxins, along with rough and dry patches, helping the balm’s deeply nourishing ingredients to reach those areas of concern – for lasting softness.
Keep Up with the SPF
Sunscreen in the winter? Absolutely! The cooler, cloudy days do not protect you from UV rays, plus an SPF will also protect your skin from free radical damage that comes from pollutants and indoor lighting. Turn the Water Temperature Down
Who doesn’t like a lovely hot bath or shower after a long day, especially when the weather is bleak outside? But have you thought about how the heat is affecting your skin?
Hot water can strip away your natural oils and increase dry, dehydrated skin. Try turning the temperature down slightly and your skin will stay hydrated for longer. Pat skin dry with your towel rather than rubbing it vigorously and apply a body oil or cream onto slightly damp skin to look in moisture. The Pevonia Dry Oil Body Moisturiser is ideal for restoring skin moisture and elasticity, it contains Vitamin A, E and D along with Squalane, Aloe and other oils, leaving skin silky without greasy residue. If you’re looking to improve your body’s skin tone, Pevonia’s Crepe-No-More Body Cream offers superb skin smoothing and slimming benefits. Containing Longan Fruit Extract, Marine Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid for a firmer, deeply hydrated, more rejuvenated and luminous appearance.
