Mandarin Essential Oil- Ingredient of the Month

What is it?

Mandarin Essential oil is extracted from the outer peel of the fruit from the Mandarin tree (Citrus Reticulata) and is part of the Rutaceae family (orange family). It’s mainly found in South America, Japan and southern Europe and is golden yellow in colour with an uplifting, fresh citrus aroma.

How can Mandarin Essential Oil help my skin?

Mandarin Essential Oil is a wonderful medicinal essential oil which is very popular in skincare due to its antiseptic and calming properties. It is also a very rich source of vitamin C, a powerful natural anti-oxidant which has many essential roles such as collagen synthesis, wound healing, anti-viral; and removes oxidant free-radicals from the body.

Those suffering with oily skin would benefit from using products containing Mandarin Essential Oil as it helps to re-balance the skin while refining its texture and aids cell rejuvenation. It is also highly recommended for use on acne-prone skin, helping to calm irritated and congested skin with its anti-septic and sedative properties.

Mandarin Essential Oil can be applied to scaring, skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis, and stretch marks. This will encourage the skin to heal quicker with the rich supply of Vitamin C and calm the affected stressed area.

Adding a high concentrate of Vitamin C to the skin will instantly brighten the area, Mandarin Essential Oil helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles, discolouration and wrinkles; nourishing the skin and creating a healthy glow.

The oil has a warm floral citrus scent which is highly relaxing and induces a state of calm. It also blends nicely with other essential oils such as basil, black pepper, chamomile, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, jasmine, juniper, lemon, myrrh, neroli and ylang ylang.
