Ingredient of the Month - Vitamin E
What is it?
Vitamin E comes from a family of fat-soluble compounds and comes in many forms. With eight different types, they include four tocopherols; (alpha, beta, gamma and delta) and four tocotrienols. The most common and the strongest form of Vitamin E is Alpha tocopherol. Vitamin E is vital for optimum health and has a way of preventing various diseases. Found in a variety of foods, a good way to consume Vitamin E is through a healthy diet, and with topical applications in cosmetics and skincare.
How can Vitamin E help my skin?
Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidant which helps to neutralise free radicals, reactive oxygen species (ROS) formed in the body when it converts food to energy, and environmental exposures such as pollution and ultraviolet radiation. Being an antioxidant, it helps to keep skin health in tip-top condition and functioning to the best of its ability.
One of the best ingredients to moisturise the skin with, Vitamin E is found in many lotions and moisturisers due to the fact to provides a substantial amount of moisture to the skin. Excellent at soothing sore, chapped skin and skin which is cracked and very dry, due to the presence of antioxidants found within Vitamin E, it heals and helps to strengthen the skin, helping to prevent more distress. It is suggested that applying moisturising products overnight is the perfect time to help the skin recover as it does the majority of its rejuvenating and healing overnight.
A brilliant cleanser for all skin types, Vitamin E helps to remove dirt, grime and dead cells which accumulate on the skins’ surface, this makes it look dull and tired. Using it to cleanse the skin twice a day is ideal and will help to give a radiant glow.
The production of Collagen and cell turnover slows down the older we get. This causes the skin to loose its elasticity and plumpness, which gives it a more youthful appearance. Due to its high content of powerful antioxidants, Vitamin E used regularly on the skin will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while hydrating and strengthening it.
To keep nails smooth and nourished, Vitamin E is an effective ingredient to use on cracked, dry cuticles.
A naturally healing vitamin, Vitamin E is found in many after-sun products as it is very effective in soothing minor sunburn and damage. Nourishing the damaged epidermis, it can help to reduce the inflammation and redness found in the stressed skin which has been exposed to the ultraviolet rays. To experience quick relief, Vitamin E should be applied twice a day on the sore, affected areas.
Reduces Brown Spots
Damaged caused from free radicals and ageing can cause brown spots to appear on the skin. Applying Vitamin E to the areas affected can help to prevent more from appearing and help to repair the damaged areas of the skin. The reason for this is Vitamin E helps to stimulate cell regeneration, which in turn, lighten the area and smooth out the uneven skin.
