Preventative Ageing of the Eyes and Lips
THE SCIENCE BEHIND PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EYES
The most common issues that affect the eyes include; wrinkles, crepiness, crow’s feet, fine lines, puffiness, sagging, loss of elasticity and dark circles. Preventative maintenance is the key to addressing these concerns but in most cases such issues are caught a little later and therefore have to be tackled with both prevention and reduction in mind.
Let’s get to the science; the dark shadows around the eyes are the result of a build up of Haemoglobin, a complex protein containing iron that, when stagnated in the blood, tints the blood purple; behind the fragile, translucent eye-contour this is extremely noticeable. This stagnation is caused by the lymph capillaries not doing their job of pumping blood and lymph freely around the body. Dark shadows can also be hereditary and are a result of the human pigment supplier melanin being in high supply in that one area. Pevonia’s ‘C’ Evolutive Eye Gel improves circulation as well as lightening and brightening this delicate region. For those who suffer with hyper-pigmentation around the eye, Pevonia’s Evolutive Eye Cream is a more appropriate product to use due to its Vitamin C content.
Fine lines and crow’s feet are often a result of dehydration and of course natural human expressions; smiling is the biggest culprit, hence the term ‘laughter lines’ to describe signs of ageing in these areas. This can be addressed with Pevonia’s Evolutive Eye Cream, which smooth and firms the eye contour.
Deeper wrinkles, loss of elasticity and sagging is due to the ageing phenomenon but is worsened by excessive rubbing of the eye zone either when tired or when removing eye make up. This excessive rubbing weakens the elastic band (orbital septum) that supports the fat cells which cushion the eye.
Once the orbital septum weakens it can no longer hold the weight of the fat cells back, causing them to fall forward, leading the eye contour to sag which will weigh down and weaken the elasticity of the eye zone. In this case Pevonia’s Collastin Eye Contour or Timeless Eye Contour should be used.
There are 22 facial muscles that contribute to the movement in the eye area. 14 of these muscles are responsible for opening and closing the eye lids. The skin around the eye area is very different to the skin on the rest of the face; it is thinner and more delicate (approximately 0.5mm in thickness, which is as thin as an egg shell), which explains why eye lids are so susceptible to damage. Many sufferers of sagging lids or puffiness who have resorted to eye surgery have been told by their surgeon that incorrect application of products and poor ingredients (such as mineral oil) have blocked the tear duct and over time collected under the eye skin, causing and worsening puffiness and sagging until this build-up is finally removed during surgery.
Pevonia has a potent combination of three Professional Eye Care treatments which offer a solution to all eye concerns. Investing in a course of treatments will ensure the achievement of long-lasting results. One treatment will provide a result yet a course of treatments will re-educate the eye contour to encourage better condition. Investing in 6 treatments once per week over 6 weeks followed by a maintenance plan of one per fortnight and then one per month or every six weeks will ensure lasting stability in this area. The maintenance plan acts as a reminder to skin to retain its new state and, as the eyes continue to be exposed to free-radical damage and form natural expressions, it is imperative to maintain the results.
Utilising homecare products is a commitment but the visible results from supplementing treatments with an at-home routine will act as an exceptional motive to persevere. Application of the products is as important as the products themselves; rubbing cream directly onto the eye lid or under eyelashes is discouraged. The skin around the eye naturally draws in moisture so tapping a pea-sized amount of product along the contour (just under the eye brow and around the height of the cheek bone) will naturally result in product being drawn into the target region without overloading or damaging the delicate skin. Pevonia’s eye line is filled with protecting, moisturising and replenishing ingredients that soothe the area around the eyes, combat cutaneous sagging and smooth fine lines.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIPS
The origin and insertion of the muscles around the lips play a fundamental role in creating folds and ageing signs around the mouth area. In order to treat the problem of muscle atrophy (deterioration) you must understand the anatomy and physiology of the muscles of facial expression. Muscles begin to atrophy at the point of insertion. By performing a Naso-Labial Lift Massage folds and wrinkles can be dramatically improved. Concerns of the lip contour include dehydration, fine lines, discolouration, scaling and thickened texture.
Dehydration, scaling and thickened texture are a result of moisture-loss often occurring in those people who are either always outdoors (wind and sun) or indoors with air conditioning and central heating. On occasions in can also be the result of using lip glosses and lipsticks with ingredients such
as S.D. Alcohol that will dehydrate the skin. Also note that make-up containing dyes and mineral oil (petrolatum/paraffinum liquidum) can cause comedones around the lip contour.
Lines around the mouth occur due to the ageing phenomenon but also through expression and of course smoking where the lips are pursed and ultimately exercised to be creased.
Discolouration occurs sometimes through an imbalance in the distribution of melanin, often during in pregnancy or when taking the contraceptive pill. The most common cause of discoloration is due to sun exposure, in particular when you combine this with the use of artificially perfumed products that react with the sun and result in hyper-pigmentation.
Pevonia Botanica has two products and a salon treatment to combat the signs of ageing using the latest in ingredients technology. These gently yet effective products contain retinol and bois oil, which are packed with innovative time-release sphérulites. One treatment will provide a result yet, a course of treatments will re-educate the eye contour to be in better condition. Incorporating Retinol using time-release technology, this treatment visibly smoothes expression lines and wrinkles around the mouth, and effectively restores and redefines the lip contour, rendering lips smooth, plump and youthful.
Pevonia’s Youthful Lip Retinol Serum plumps the skin and encourages an exceptionally youthful appearance so that the elasticity of the lip is visibly improved.
Used in conjunction with the Youthful Lip Retinol Serum, Pevonia’s Youthful Lip Cream helps boost the epidermal cellular activity whilst encouraging hydro-retention within the skin. This groundbreaking cream diminishes lines, whilst keeping lips moist without a greasy residue. Shadows are alleviated and the lip contour is redefined. The surface of the lip is smoother, revealing renewed skin surface. The cream is also an excellent base for lipstick, making it long lasting and bleed-free.
For maximum results, Pevonia’s Youthful Lip Retinol Serum and Youthful Lip Cream should be used consecutively morning and night. After only a few treatments the lips will be visibly smoother and hydrated. Pevonia’s Youthful Lip Line products offer a serious solution to the damaging effects of
ageing, with astonishing visual results.
Skin takes a journey with Pevonia; as long as there is a commitment to treatments and homecare, the results of this dedication will be apparent in the improved condition of the eyes and lips, which will see a huge reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, puffiness, dark circles, discolouration and
other common issues associated with ageing in these areas.
